Herbert Johnson were the hatters of choice for the post-war Gentleman racer, with clients including Stirling Moss, Graham Hill and Mike Hawthorn. This post-war helmet is in stunning condition, used but with barely a mark, once the property of John Thomson, owner and racer of a Bugatti T35.

John Russell Thomson (1932-2007) acquired his T35 in the 1950s, chassis #4575, a 1925 Molsheim works racing Type 35 which was campaigned by Jules Goux winning the French and Spanish Grand Prix, and competed in hill climbs and sprints, showing the car in 1974 at the 50th Anniversary of Grand Prix Bugatti in Lyon (colour photo shown).

Stunning piece with great history and provenance, one of the best you will find.
