Maria Teresa de Filippis was a remarkable woman; the first woman to race in Formula One. She participated in five World Championship Grands Prix, debuting on 18 May 1958, she won races in other series and is remembered as a pioneer in the sport.

Maria will always be associated with Maserati, the team that gave her a drive in Formula 1 with the encouragement of J M Fangio, and she was President of the Maserati Club for many years, but was also the driving force behind the Le Club Internationale des Anciens Pilotes de Grand Prix (The Grand Prix Drivers Club), and represented them for many years at events.

This helmet was worn by Maria on the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of Maserati, is also believed to have been worn during the modern Mille Miglia during runs in the 90s. The helmet is a Jebs 'classic' in barely used condition with a Gucci helmet bag, and comes with solid provenance from the de Filippis estate and with photographic proof of Maria wearing the helmet.

One of a pair (one sold, one available), enquiries are invited.
